Referendum on voting systems to appear on November ballot

In spite of two issues that were raised by Forrest Lehman, director of the county’s Voter Services Department, the Election Board voted in favor of placing on the November ballot asking the county voters if they want to continue having their ballots counted by electronic voting systems.

On a 2 to 1 vote, with Commissioner Rick Mirabito casting the lone no vote, the election board decided that a petition which had been circulated in the county by a group of concerned citizens calling for a referendum on the ballot would be allowed even though the wording of the petition referred to voting machines, which the county does not currently use, instead of an electronic voting system.
